The storied journey of Rio Tinto diamonds originated in a remote wilderness in Western Australia, and beneath the frozen, windswept lakes of Canada’s Northwest Territories—the Argyle and Diavik mines.
The Argyle Diamond Mine, which closed in November 2020, produced an array of natural coloured diamonds ranging from dramatic pinks, reds and violets to more subtle greys, golden and brown hues.
The Diavik Mine yields large, high quality white diamonds with a shimmer and brilliance that mimic their icy birthplace.
Rio Tinto has created a unique mine-to-market Chain of Custody system that painstakingly tracks the path of its diamonds throughout the entire supply chain. External auditors monitor our partners to ensure the rigorous controls are maintained as the diamonds make their way through the pipeline.
